Make A Wish For Addi and Cassi Today
Your support and encouragement helps us get through each day as we fight our battle against Niemann Pick Type C, the “Childhood Alzheimer’s.” We read all messages posted to our family and while we may not be able to respond to each message, your messages are very touching. Thank you to everyone around the world who has posted on our Wishes Board.

I was unaware of this disease until tonight. I don’t watch tv and saw this on utube. I have very high cholesterol and have been put on a prescription drug called Welchol. You may have already tried it. I have also been eating special muffins I bake and using these in conjunction with niacin (which may cause problems in some people). I am just clutching at straws. I’m 60 & have been fighting very high cholesterol since in my 20’s. My father died at 56 from this. I can’t take statins. I am just passing this along to you, in case you might want to add this or check it out. It has helped me lower my cholesterol quite a bit. (The muffin/niacin program is in a book by Robert Kowalski called the 8 Week Cholesterol Cure. I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT NAME! I have been on it for 5 years and plan to continue this the rest of my life. It is NOT 8 weeks for those of us with major problems.)
I am so very sorry for what you are going through and now that I know of this, I will be trying to do something…anything…to help. You are welcome to contact me if I can help in any way. I’m disabled & see doctors quite often, but can surely do something if needed.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your lovely family. I have a 3 year old niece who has cystic fibrosis, but there have been major break throughs with this disease. I pray for a break through in time to help your wonderful, darling girls.
Sincerely, Barbara S.
I read the story about your family in Good Housekeeping, and I was so moved by how brave and strong you are as parents. It’s amazing what you have done for them…. I’m hoping 2013 will be a great year for you all, with new improvements and steady steps forward. Be strong and know that there are lots of us out here cheering for you and beautiful Cassi & Addi!!
Lots of love!!!!
Hi Hempels,
We haven’t seen each other in years — not since our shared Sparkpr days. I’ve been so moved by your story and have been keeping your family in my prayers. The work you all have done on this disease is just amazing. All the best in 2013.

I am so happy that these two beautiful girls have a Mommy and Daddy who have moved mountains!! You two parents are miracle makers, in more ways than one. Your girls know how great you are and what you have and will do for them. My heart is with you and your family. You are the strongest family that I have ever seen. Lots of love and hope to you all. My hopes for this new procedure to be doing its best, and for a cure somewhere in the near future.
you guys are very courageous parents. the twins are very beautiful! i hope that the new medical procedure that they are enduring right now brings magnificent result for them. i’ll pray for you, so that God can give you strength to go through all that, and that he can heal the girls .may the blessings of God lay upon this family.
